Refuse is the exciting sequel to Reclaim and continues the struggles of the Porter brothers as they fight against the Zeal (aliens who have invaded Earth). This time, older brother Bradley Porter, a pilot in the MAF (Mars Armed Forces), is tasked with taking control of the last Zeal ship in orbit around the Earth - a task as desparate as it is dangerous. Meanwhile, his brother Teve continues to endure his captivity, Dr. Hoang's not so kindly ministrations and fights to find away out of his situation so he can continue to fight the Zeal and find his friend, Mish.I really like the characters in Scorch's books - the Porter brothers are well-developed and have different strengths and weaknesses: Bradley is quick to make decisions on the fly and is one of MAF's best pilots, but he has trouble keeping a lid on his mouth when speaking to his superiors and has been known to find himself in the brig. Teve Porter on the other hand is headstrong and is apt to get himself in serious trouble by going into situations when the threat assessment is high. On the positive side, Teve is loyal to his fellow soldiers and shows great determination when fighting against the Zeal. Between the two brothers, they have been taking the fight to the Zeal despite bad odds and challenges.
Refuse has plenty of action, is exciting and gripping - I found myself several times with my heart in my mouth wondering if the Porter brothers were going to survive - the Zeal are one very scary alien species and the hybrids (humans infected with the Zeal virus) terrify me even more, which makes me feel particularly glad they are not real and makes this an excellant read. Desperately looking forward to the next book in the series :)

Refuse Book 2 of the Reclaim Series eBook JA Scorch Reviews
This is the second of the series and it focuses on two brothers, One is trapped on the now overtaken Earth, fighting back as a Marine and the other brother is in space above Earth, fighting the enemy's ships as a pilot in the Mars Force. There is so much action here with both of the brothers risking their lives daily in their interactions with the aliens and it is fast! Each chapter is from one of the brother's view, telling the story of the war from their perspective. I really enjoyed the overview the Mars Forces gave me while the Earth Marines gave me the nitty-gritty of being up close to the aliens. I could not put this book down. The characters were real and the aliens were scary weird. This is way better than the first story, probably because now we are giving it to the attackers!
Continuing where the first book of the Reclaim trilogy ended, Refuse follows the careers of the two Porter brothers as they fight for humanity against the alien Zeal. Their lives are very different, one being a distinguished officer pilot in the fleet based on Mars, whilst Teve is a footsoldier on Earth, recently infected by an alien virus and being held prisoner and experimented upon by the sadistic Dr.Hoang. Neither knows what has become of the other, nor even if they still live. By alternating chapters between the two, not only does the author increase the ongoing tensions but also gives the reader two completely different stories and viewpoints of the aliens faced in this exciting and innovative book.
With constant action packed thrills and a most unusual enemy, this is a series not to be missed.

This book continues the witty, gritty adventures of Jackson Creed and Joel Kelly. Solid, fast-paced military science fiction with good characters, a light-hearted approach, and a developing story line which will be continued in future books. I love it and it will definitely go on my 'to be reread in the future' list.
One brother on Earth. The other brother in space for Mars. Their stories reflect the continuing fight against aliens. Mars remains free of alien ground forces. On Earth the aliens are infecting humans; turning them into against uninflected humans. Can the scientists stop the infections or help keep infected soldiers fighting for humans?
This is a space and ground war syfy taken to extremes. I love science fiction that thinks, so I loved this book. I would heartily recommend it to anyone,
JAS has continued with his far reaching SyFy novel that covers the continued invasion of an alien fleet that has decimated Earth. The on going war was beginning to show signs that the Mars and Earth combined militaries are slowly but surely gaining on the technocracy of the aliens.
One man has shown the way that there are Earth men and women who are successful in fighting the alien force. This is an excellent read for the genre.....ER
